Christmas oatmeal (VEGAN)

45g oats
half an apple
handful of dried cranberries
sprinkle of cinnamon
100ml almond milk
100ml water

Nutrition per serving
6g fat / 62g carbs / 6g protein

Spiced Winter Stew (VEGAN / VEGETARIAN)

2 Carrots, quartered
1 pack of baby Parsnips, quartered
1 1/2  tsp Parisienne Herbs
1 Courgette, chopped
1 bunch Mint, chopped
1 carton Chickpeas
1 carton Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Garlic and Onion
1 Vegetable stock pot
300ml water
150g Bulgur Wheat
1/2 pot Greek Yoghurt
25g Flaked Almonds
1 tbsp oil

Nutrition per serving (serves 2)
17g fat / 114g carbs / 30g protein

Cod stir fry (PESCETARIAN)

2 Cod fillets
1 bag of Stir fry mix
50ml sauce of your choice (I used teriyaki and ginger stir fry sauce)
100-200g of a tub of pre-made mashed potato

Nutrition per serving
9g fat / 36g carbs / 42g protein

1) Trail Mix or Granola
2) Fruit Juices or Smoothies
3) Salad Dressings
4) Avocado
5) Coconut Milk
6) Natural Sweeteners
7) Energy Bars
8) Gluten-Free Foods
9) Vegetable Chips
10) Frozen Yoghurt
11) Nut Butter

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be eating all these foods, in fact, most of them should be part of your diet. But be aware that they are NOT “free” calories. Those calories can still add up, causing you to experience a weight loss plateau or even weight gain.

So what’s the key to not gaining weight on healthy foods? The answer is fairly simple – you should know what you’re eating and PORTION CONTROL is the key. Apply these tips and train yourself to be a MINDFUL eater.

When your health is a top priority, trying to make sense of all the information on nutrition can be quite confusing.In this talk, Dr. Mike Israetel summarizes the scientific findings on diet and health and lays out the simple rules of diet design that can be used by nearly everyone to get the most out of their health without the confusion and contradiction of typical diet advice. Dr. Mike Israetel holds a PhD in Sport Physiology and is currently the Head Science Consultant for Renaissance Periodiization. Mike was formerly a professor of Exercise and Sport Science in the School of Public Health at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he taught several courses, including Nutrition for Public Health, Advanced Sports Nutrition, and Exercise, Nutrition and Behavior. He has worked as a consultant on sports nutrition to the U.S. Olympic Training Site in Johnson City, TN and has been an invited speaker at numerous scientific and performance/health conferences, including nutritional seminars at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. A co-founder of Renaissance Periodization, Mike has coached numerous athletes and busy professionals in both diet and weight training. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Mike is a competitive bodybuilder and Brazilian JiuJitsu grappler. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
